Hilda Drucilla Loader (Smith) - 3/25/2016

Class of 1940

Early Life: Drucilla "Dot" was born August 25, 1922, in Pleasant Grove, Utah, to Earl Elias Loader and Eva May Lewis Loader. She grew up in Pleasant Grove with three sisters: Jeanne, Barbara and Earlene, whom she loved very dearly.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Dot met her sweetheart, Ernest Patten Smith, while working at the Pleasant Grove Bank. Ernest would come to the bank and would wait until Dot could be the one to help him. They married on March 6, 1945, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, Dot and Ernest raised seven children. They spent 14 years together before Ernest passed away from cancer in 1959. She raised her family in Pleasant Grove and had a great love for the community where she was grew up, lived and served. She worked for 25 years as the Pleasant Grove City Librarian. She volunteered much of her time to serving in the community. She served as a member of the Pleasant Grove City Arts Council, on the Historic Preservation Committee, and the Library Board. Dot was honored for her service by the Lion’s Club, by Pleasant Grove City, and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: serving as Relief Society President, in the Young Women organization, and on the Stake Sunday School and Relief Society Boards. All who knew Dot knew she loved family history. She made friends across the world as a result of her passion for genealogy. She delighted in spending hours at the family history library in Salt Lake City, searching for lost ancestors. She loved her predecessors and her descendants, and enjoyed sharing the stories of their lives. She was a lover of words and a teller of tales. Drucilla “Dot” Loader Smith, died March 25, 2016, at the age of 93.
