Lowell J. Baxter - 6/19/2010

Class of 1944

Lowell J. Baxter of Pleasant Grove, and recently of Orem, Utah passed away on June 19, 2010, after valiantly serving his Church, Family and Friends for 84 years. Lowell was born May 29, 1926 to John C.and Rosa J Baxter in American Fork, Utah. He married Barbara Loader Baxter in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, August 14, 1944. Lowell is survived by his wife of 66 years, children: John L. (Susan) Baxter, Laurel B (Keith) Blomquist, Lisa B. Irons, and Bradley L (Maryann) Baxter, 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and three loving sisters-in-law Jean Alldredge, Drucilla Smith, and Earlene Lindsay. Preceded in death by his parents and sister Elizabeth Nielson.

Lowell spent his early years in Lindon, Utah. The balance of his childhood and early adolescent years he lived in Junction, Utah where there were many happy days, good friends and memories that have lasted a lifetime. Lowell’s family moved to Orem, Utah when he was a junior in high school. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1944, and was active in the school’s music and drama departments. Lowell married his high school sweetheart, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Lowell & Barbara settled in Pleasant Grove to raise their family. They were active in many community organizations. Lowell was the President of the Pl. Grove Jaycees, a member of the Pl. Grove Lions Club, Auxilliary Police Department and member of the Utah Skyline Chorus Barbershop Singers. Lowell was also one of those instrumental in building the original Pleasant Grove Veterans Memorial Swimming Pool. His career included Rural Mail Carrier, U. S. Postal Service, Sales Agent for Farmers Insurance and Utah Farm Bureau Insurance, GNLD Distributor.

Lowell was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings through the years: Stake Sunday School Presidency, Ward Clerk, Bishops Counselor and Stake Executive Secretary. He was currently serving in the Orem Sharon Park 3rd Ward as a Family History Consultant.

Lowell enjoyed his family and the many activities they shared: Traveling, Camping, Fishing, Hunting, Family Dinners and spending time together. He was a very loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. Grandpa will be remembered for his quick wit, his love of a good story, and his fun and entertaining songs he taught his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will miss him and look forward to the day when we can hear him sing to us again!
