Brian Varley - 4/25/2013

Class of 2004

Brian Anthony Varley, 26, returned to his Father in Heaven on April 25, 2013 in St. George, Utah. He was born July 19, 1986 in Grand Junction, Colorado to David Anthony Varley and Colette Hunt Varley, being the second of three children. Brian was raised in Grand Junction, and had a happy childhood with his brother, Jason, and sister, Amber. They had fond memories of playing in the field behind their house, raising pet rabbits, riding bikes, and exploring the Colorado outdoors.

Growing up, Brian had an intensely curious mind. No item in the house stood a chance of not being taken apart, examined, and put back together. His eye for detail blossomed when he followed his Grandpa Hunt around his workshop, both clad in overalls carrying pens and tools. He even created a motorized bicycle using the engine from a weedwhacker.

At a young age his gift of creativity was shown in a first grade assignment, where he drew Jack and the Beanstalk. Jack was on the page, and all you could see of the giant were the bottom of his legs. When the teacher asked where the rest of the giant was, Brian explained he would not fit on the page if he wanted it to be realistic.

Brian was an artist, inventor, creator, photographer, and a graphic designer. At the age of 15, his mother relocated to St. George, Utah, where Brian attended and graduated from Dixie High School. Brian was not only an artist, but an athlete as well. While at Dixie High School, Brian threw the shot put and discus, where he competed in the Track & Field Utah State Championships. Brian had a love of life that was evident by his contagious smile and laugh. During his senior year, Brian was awarded "Best Laugh." Whether you were in the room with him or a down the hall, you could not help but smile when you heard his laugh.

Brian shared his love of the gospel as he served faithfully in the Detroit, Michigan mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When he returned from his LDS mission, he continued his studies at Dixie State University. He enjoyed camping with friends, riding his motorcycle, and playing with his nieces and dog, Pai Mae.

He is survived by his mother, Colette of St. George, Utah; father, David (Joanne) of Broken Bow, Nebraska; his brother Jason (Lauren) of San Clemente, CA; his sister Amber (Josh) of St. George, Utah; his grandmother Marilyn Hunt Varley, of Berkeley, California; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Ellis and Barbara Hunt, of St. George, Utah and Charles Ray Varley, of Salt Lake City, Utah.
