The Flagstaff Eagles took their nighttime appearance on the court as an opportunity to show off their skills as they beat the Mohave Thunderbirds 60-22.

Despite the Thunderbirds getting the first two points on the board, the Eagles came back just seven seconds later with an easy layup and then some; and then some more after that.

Senior guard Savannah Bix was happy about how her team played.

"It's just something we really needed to do ... we need to do (that) every game ... come out and play aggressively on defense and be productive on offense," Bix said.

The Eagles averaged about 15 points per quarter and kept control of the court all game. The team worked together, passed the ball and rebounded like it was nobody's business. Although Flagstaff had the lead the entire game, that didn't stop the bench or the crowd from cheering on the home team.

Senior guard Jaculynn Ned's favorite part of the game was the support she felt from the bench.

"It feels good when everyone is cheering out there for you and they want you to get the win," Ned said.

Not only were the Eagles able to swat the ball out of the Thunderbird's possession more times than one could count, but they made six out of their nine attempted free throws and threw in a couple 3 pointers for some extra spice.

Head coach Tyrone Johnson was proud of his team and the way they played tonight.

"It was good to play at a level that we want to play at consistently ... I just wanted to make sure that they came out and played at a level that we were accustomed to playing and they definitely did that," Johnson said.

The Eagles will be at home next Monday against the Red Rock Scorpions. Going into the next game, Bix and Johnson are ready for some hard practices.

"We need to challenge each other daily ... when we come out and play our opponents, we need to stay composed and just got to do the things we do in practice," Johnson said.

"The games should be easier than the practices, we should scrimmage harder than the games should be," Bix said.
