James Mountford - 7/9/2010

Class of 1950

St. George, Utah - James Frank Mountford, 78, left this mortal existence in the early hours of July 9, 2010, due to complications from diabetes. He was born June 10, 1932, in Payson, Utah to Francis William Mountford and Helen Curtis. He married Doris Shirley McGuire in the Salt Lake Temple, June 11, 1952.

Jim was born in Payson and moved to Heber City as a young boy. He graduated from Wasatch High School, where he was the editor of the Wasona. He was the editor and publisher of two weekly newspapers, The Wasatch Wave and The Washington County News. He wrote a weekly editors column in those papers titled Ripples editorializing on current events in the local community as well as the national scene. He was awarded Best Editorial and Best Editor’s Column by the Utah Press Association for his efforts. At the time of his death, he was a partner in Classic Printing. He was an avid reader and liked to fish, hunt, rock hound, collected hats, and debate the world problems with his friends at the coffee shop. He served as president of the Heber Valley Junior Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Lions Club and the Elks Club.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, St. George; children: Peggy (Scott) Watson, Sandy, Utah; Jeffery F. (Karen), Gilbert, Arizona; Kevin, Swan Diego, California; J. Kelly, St. George. Grandaughters, Krystle and Kathryn Mountford. Sister, Karen Cottam, St. George; brothers, Asa, St. George and Paul, Port Orchard, Washington. He is preceded in death by his parents.
