Phyllis Englestead Richins - 11/3/2005

Class of 1974

HURRICANE - Phyllis Englestead Richins, our beloved wife and mother was called home Thursday, November 3, 2005, at her home in Hurricane. Phyllis was born April 20, 1956, to Myrna Wadsworth and Hal Englestead.

Phyllis spent the first two years of her life in Hurricane with her grandparents, Earl and Wilma Englestead. After that time, she lived in Las Vegas with her family until she was 12 years old. Her family then moved back to Hurricane where she attended Hurricane High School. Dynamic, creative, and hardworking, she was involved in every club, organization and event HHS had to offer. Phyllis had several jobs during high school, including: working at the Frost Top; waitressing at the Driftwood and Bumbleberry Restaurants in Springdale; as well as working in Zion National Park.

After graduating, Phyllis attended SUSC in Cedar City, Utah, where she fell in love with her sweetheart, Gary Richins. They were married in the Manti Temple on August 14, 1975.

Phyllis spent 10 years working at Hurricane Middle School as a Media Aide. She truly enjoyed her many associations there with students and faculty alike. After successfully raising her children, Phyllis began pursuing her educational goals. She graduated from Dixie State College in May of 2004. She was enrolled at Southern Utah University, obtaining a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Library and Media Sciences. She was on schedule to graduate in the Spring of 2006, after which she planned to work 20 years, retire, and serve an LDS mission with her husband in Hawaii.

Phyllis truly had a zest for living, recognizing God's hand in the many aspects in her life. Her faith, creativity, happy smile, positive influence, and refreshing realistic approach to life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived her: husband of 30 years, Gary Kay Richins; four children, Jennifer Smith, Bart, JakiLyn, and Warrin; three grandchildren; mother, Myrna Evans; and two brothers, Robert Iverson and Mike Englestead.
