John W. Phalen - 12/25/2010

Class of 1946

OGDEN – John W. Phalen, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 25, 2010.

He was born April 4, 1928, in Ogden, Utah, to John and Edna Phalen. John graduated from Ogden High School and he and 50 of his graduating class joined the U.S. Army on the same day. He proudly served his country in the Korean War.

John married Patricia Shaum in 1952. They began their life together in Berkley, California where John learned the trade of Master Plumber. After returning to Ogden, he worked as a supervisor for J.N. Allred Plumbing for 35 years until his retirement. John was a close friend to Dee “Big-D” Livingood and John and Dee worked together on many of Utah’s landmark construction projects.

John always worked and played hard. He was a happy enthusiastic participant in all aspects of his life. John was a beautiful skier and he and Pat enjoyed many sunny winter days on the slopes of Snow Basin. He enjoyed Jeep trips to Southern Utah, and camping, fishing, and hunting with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Phalen; their two children Jodi (Jack) Livingood and Patrick Phalen; his three grandchildren Paige and Abby Phalen, and Jackson Livingood; and his sister Dorothy Sumner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathryn Foutty.
