Joy Aldine Hemmert Erickson - 7/29/2011

Class of 1946

Joy Erickson passed away peacefully on July 29, 2011. She was born in Ogden, Utah, on July 12, 1928 to Willard Wright and Katherine Verme Hemmert.

On May 13, 1950 she married Richard Lawrence Erickson, in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple.

Joy graduated from Ogden High School and Weber State University with a degree in Sociology. She worked as a Youth Counselor for the Utah State Youth Corrections for 28 years, retiring in 1992.

She then spent the rest of her life doing volunteer work for the Juvenile Court, Weber County Youth, Residential, Hospice, Senior Volunteer Counsel, National Day of Service, W.C. Fair Sr. Advisory Board, and the Homeless Veterans Fellowship.

Joy was the Mrs. Weber County Senior Citizen 1995.

She was a devoted member of the 67th Ward of the LDS Church and served in various callings in the Primary and Relief Society.

She loved to travel and had visited 45 states and 13 countries. She loved to camp (in comfort) with her family and friends at Bear Lake.

Joy is survived by her daughter Katherine Hutton, son Craig Erickson; four grandchildren, Stepheni Hutton, Bart Erickson, Christa Erickson Wayment, and Dylan Erickson, eight great-grandchildren and her sister Billie (Orlin) Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, son, Rick, brother, George and sister Darlene.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Crestwood Care Center for all the loving care they gave to our mother.
