John Richard Miller - 6/22/2011

Class of 1959

HOOPER – Our loving husband, father, and grandfather, John Richard Miller, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 22, 2011.

Richard was born on August 20, 1941 to R. Glen and Edna Marie Kunz Miller. He grew up in Ogden, attended Ogden High School and graduated from Weber State College.

He served a mission in the Eastern Atlantic States and attended graduate school at the University of Utah. He worked at Hill Air Force Base in Personnel where he hired and fired (much to his dismay), and developed training programs.

Richard married Linda Grange on January 2, 1963, in the Manti LDS Temple. They were blessed to have an exceptionally happy and loving marriage. They lived most of their married lives in Hooper where they made lasting and valued friendships.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, four children; Lisa (Ran) Jones, Lori (James) Jenson, Todd (Karrie) Miller, Robb (Kacie) Miller, 19 beloved grandchildren, and two sisters; Shirlee (Joe) Lalli and Marty (Jim) Galovan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Richard served as a volunteer at America First Credit Union for over 25 years, where he served as a member of the Board of Directors. He and Linda valued the associations and experiences with dear friends and associates.

Richard was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many wonderful experiences while hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Until his illness, he could still out hike the younger generation. He loved to read, golf, work in his yard and garden, spend time with his favorite dog, annual family camping trips, traveling with his wife, and Saturday afternoons with the family while watching BYU football. He bled blue.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he faithfully served in many callings including: stake and ward young men's president, counselor in several bishoprics, high councils, and Bishop. His most loved calling was that of an ordinance worker in the Ogden LDS Temple where he made many eternal friendships. Despite illness and pain, he served valiantly until the temple closed.

He never complained and endured pleasantly and optimistically and was able to remain with us for longer than expected. We will always value his example as he taught us many important principles. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel and instilled it into his posterity. He was a wonderful teacher both in word and example.
