C. Michael Kelley - 1/23/2011

Class of 1967

OGDEN – C. Michael Kelley passed away in Ogden, Utah on Sunday, January 23, 2011, from pancreatic cancer.

Mike was born June 29, 1949 in Oakland, California, the first child of Charles and Ellen Kelley. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1967 and was proud to be a member of the Ogden High State Championship Football Team that same year. He attended Weber State University and was a member of Excelsior Fraternity for a year before enlisting and attending basic training as a member of the 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Utah National Guard. He continued his service for seven years. In 1972, he graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Civil Engineering and as a member of the Chi Epsilon Honors Society. He also enjoyed an association with the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

Mike married his lifelong sweetheart, Gayle Allen, on July 6, 1972 and settled in Ogden, Utah to a happy life of family, friends, and enjoying all aspects of the great outdoors.

He and his father began the Kellco Engineering Firm and as members of the newly formed Weber Industrial Bureau, were instrumental in the development of the Weber Industrial Park, the Ogden Industrial Park, and what would later become the Business Development Ogden. They also designed the site work for the Newgate Mall. Mike later became a principal partner of CRS Engineering of Salt Lake City, Utah. During his career, his experience spanned the United States by working on projects as far East as North Dakota and as far West as California and Mexico. He was often engaged in projects for the Army Corp of Engineers including Fort Douglas and Camp Williams in Lehi. Until his illness, he had recently enjoyed developing site plans for schools, and he appreciated working with the District Managers and Architects on over 100 school projects such as Plain City and Eden Elementary Schools, Davis High, and Jordan High, just a few of his favorites.

Mike is survived by his wife Gayle; son Jason (Jana), West Warren; daughter Heather Kelley; son Christopher (Anna); son Patrick, and was lucky enough to enjoy four beautiful granddaughters.

Also surviving are his sisters, Sharon (Scott) Hurst and Laurie (Mike) Brown, both of Park City; Julie (Doug) Burch, Riverdale.

The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Vince Hansen and his staff of Utah Oncology and especially the sweet angels of Intermountain Health Care Hospice.
