Frank Byrd Newman Jr. 1922 ~ 2006 Frank B. Newman Jr., 83 beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully at home. He was born June 29, 1922 in Pleasant Grove the son of Edna Holdaway and Frank B. Newman Sr. In his youth he was taught the values of hard work, conservative living and affiliation with organizations of high moral values, particularly the church. Married Alice Beck and later divorced. Married Rosalind Pack, she died April 5, 1969. Married Carolyn Dunn, she died September 23, 2000. Married Carolyn Lamb Dec. 8, 2001. Frank was very active in all student affairs at school. He was debate manager, on the tennis team, in plays, school band, and became Student Body President of the Pleasant Grove High School. After graduating he attended the University of Utah and Lasalle University primarily studying economics, political science and law. He enlisted in the Army Field Artillery along with several hundred other ROTC students. After the war, Frank continued school and received a LLB Law Degree. In church Frank held many positions. He was a member of the High Council in his early 20's served in three bishoprics, High Priest Group Leader, and Temple Worker for many years. Frank and his wife Carolyn Dunn served a mission at the Visitors Center in St. George. Frank started working at the Hotel Utah while attending the U of U. After the World War II he returned to employment at the Hotel Utah as a department manager, subsequently becoming Director of Sales and Resident Manager. Frank received the employee of the year award by the SL Chamber of Commerce. He was also the director of the New ZCMI Center and the manager of the Associations of Stores. In 1963 Frank , together with several business associates, organized a new bank in Bountiful which became known as Utah Bank & Trust. He was President and Chairman of the Board and was also on the Committee of the American Banker Association for eight years. He voluntarily served on a number of boards of directors of both business and charitable organizations. He was President of the Utah Bankers Association in 1985 and was named distinguished Banker of Utah in 1991. Frank was always affiliated with worthy charitable organizations. He served on a number of committees including; Chairman of the City of Hope, Board Member and Chairman of the Heart Lung Foundation and the Legacy of Life, and as a long time Board Member and Treasure of the United Way of Davis County, and for 12 years was the Chairman of the Utah Savings Board Committee and as an affiliate member of the BYU and Dixie National Advisory Councils. Frank spoke to groups teaching the importance of freedom from debt. In sports Frank loved the game of tennis which he played regularly until age 76. He loved to garden and always had gorgeous flowers around his yard. He was a true believer that the true road to success in personal life, family activity and business was to practice true moral values and fellowshipping. He said he never had a neighbor he didn't like. His favorite scriptures are "Charity never faileth" and "If ye are prepared ye need not fear." Frank wrote two books on the subjects. Frank is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, two brothers Robert (Jean) Newman and David Newman and five children; L. Brent Newman , Sumner (Janet) Newman , Roger (Annette) Newman , Annalee (Kenneth) Kempton, Richard (Stephanie) Newman and Shauna (Scott) Slack; three stepchildren; Malinda (Scott) Mitchell, Brent (Stacey) Bean, Melanie (Tim) White. Together Frank and Carolyn have 27 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by his parents and sister Elizabeth Alt. Funeral services will be held on Monday January 23 at 12 noon at the Bountiful Hills Ward 1190 E Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful. Friends may call Sunday evening 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N Main and at 11 :00 - 11:45 at the church prior to Services. Interment -Bountiful City Cemetery. The family wishes to express appreciation to doctors DeWayne Schmidt and Grant Christian for their kindness and loving care.
