La Verle Neves (Makin, Day) - 9/8/2013

Class of 1938

LaVerle Neves Makin Day, 92, of Pleasant Grove, Utah passed away September 8, 2013 in American Fork. Born February 1, 1921 in Burlington, Wyoming the daughter of Wilford Trane and Mary Carling Neves. She married Ernest LeRoy Makin, September 3, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death August 2, 1969. She later married Orville Wayne Day, September 20, 1980 in Provo, Utah and he preceded her in death on June 6, 2009. Survivors include her children: Linda (Deceased) (Kenneth) Gray, Arden (Lyda) Makin; Ardith (Larry) Higley; Nancy Makin; Carl ( Tamera) Makin Waynes children, Orville (Beverly); Wilford (Karen); Karen (Daniel, deceased) Carbajal; Paul (Janice); Ivan (Nancy); Clark (Linda); Ruth (Richard) Huish; Joy (Lynn) Ruff; Lynn (DeAnn) and Eugene (Pauline), 92 grandchildren, 221 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her two husbands, her parents, a daughter, five sisters and a brother. LaVerle was baptized by her father in the Greybull River in Wyoming. Her family moved to Pleasant Grove when she was young. LaVerle was a wonderful student and skipped one full grade of school. While married to Ernest, they bought and ran a dairy farm. After Ernest died she continued to run the dairy farm for two years while going back to BYU to finish her teaching degree that she started when she was a young girl. Graduating with a Special Education Degree, her first job was in St Anthony, Idaho--she drove home to P.G. every weekend. Following St. Anthony, she taught at Kamas High School and then at the Developmental Center in A.F. where she taught music therapy. She served as the Developmental Center ward organist, with Wayne as her assistant for over 20 years. Thanks to the Staff of the Beehive Home American Fork South for their Loving Care, and all of the residents for their wonderful friendship and love for LaVerle. Funeral Services for LaVerle will be held Saturday Sept.14 at 11:00 AM in the Hillcrest Stake Center, located 165 N 350 W, American Fork. Visitation Friday 6-8 at Anderson Mortuary 49 E 100 N, American Fork and Saturday 10 to 10:45 at the church. Interment, Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Please share a memory at andersonmortuary.com.
