Charles Lyle Rodeback - 9/13/2013

Class of 1941

VETERAN
US ARMY
WORLD WAR II

Charles "Charlie" Rodeback, age 91, passed away September 13, 2013, at his home in Lindon, Utah surrounded by many of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was born in Lindon June 20, 1922, to James Henry Rodeback and Pearl Cobbley Rodeback, the sixth of nine children. Following his graduation from Pleasant Grove High School, he joined the U.S. Army and served from December 1942 to November 1945. He was in battles at Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes including the Battle of the Bulge, the Rhineland, and Central Europe.

After his return from Europe, he met Ila Miller and they married in the Salt Lake Temple in February 1946. They were blessed with five children: Kathie (Curtis) Atkinson, Kent (Kathy) Rodeback, Charlane or Charlie (Richard) Crandall, Delynn (Becky) Rodeback, and Rick (Michelle) Rodeback, 22 grandchildren and a multitude of great-grandchildren. Ila passed away in July 2008 and he missed her dearly. The family is grateful to Kent Rodeback, Ryan Crandall, Richard Crandall, Jeff Rodeback, Chris & Nicole Rodeback, and Rachel Flinders who provided constant care during his and Ila's failing years. And a special thanks to Paula Petroff of A Plus Home Health and Hospice for her sensitive, capable care of Charlie.

Charlie served in the Lindon Lions Club for 45 years. He was an officer and involved in the construction of their building in the Lindon City Park. He coached the Lindon Utes, a Little League baseball team, for many years including years when his three sons played. Charlie worked at Geneva Steel for 35 years and received a certificate for his years of dedicated service. He retired in 1981. Following his retirement from Geneva Steel, he did volunteer work for the Lindon City Parks. After a short period of time they liked his work so well, he was put on the payroll.

He was a man of exemplary character; with a strong commitment to family, church and community. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on.

Funeral Services will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Lindon Second Ward) 610 West 100 South, Lindon, Utah Thursday, September 19 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing preceding the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. There will be a viewing the prior evening, Wednesday, September 18 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah.
