Edwin Dee Olpin - 3/15/1997

Edwin Dee Olpin, 65, of Pleasant Grove, passed away Saturday morning March 15, 1997 at his home as a result of lung cancer.

He was born March 10, 1932 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to Lewis Edwin and Margaret Joseph Olpin. He married Pauline Paramore on June 7, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He grew up and received his education in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1950. He continued his education in California in Mortuary Science and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in education. He served in the military during the Korean War and was stationed in Yakima, Washington. He was a third generation funeral director and operated Olpin Family Mortuary in Pleasant Grove for 40 years until his retirement in 1995.

He was a high priest in the Pleasant Grove First Ward and served in numerous callings during his life including bishop. He served in the Stake High Council for 16 years. He was proud of the fact that he lived in the Pleasant Grove First Ward his entire life with the exception of his military service and schooling in California.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline of Pleasant Grove; three sons and two daughters, Lewis Edwin "Ed" (Cindy) Olpin of Pleasant Grove; Kristine Olpin, Pleasant Grove; Paul Dee (Gayle) Olpin, Pleasant Grove; Dr. Jeffrey Dee Olpin, New York, New York; Angela (Robert) Burden, Draper; and five grandchildren. Additional survivors include four sisters and one brother: LuJean Sundberg, Provo; Kathryn Weeks, Seattle, WA; Elaine West over, Aurora, CO; Jewel Knight, Provo; Gerald Olpin, Salt Lake.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at 11 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove Stake Center, 255 East 500 South, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 500 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, and at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
