Mildred Bezzant Sutch - 9/19/2008

Mildred Bezzant Sutch, 86, of Pleasant Grove passed away Friday, September 19, 2008. Mildred was born in Pleasant Grove on April 16, 1922 to Matthew and Cora Olpin Bezzant. She married Robert Sutch on June 10, 1941 in Provo. Robert passed away in 1984.

Mildred grew up in Pleasant Grove, graduating from Pleasant Grove High School in 1938 as class Valedictorian. She served as Miss Pleasant Grove that same year. She and Robert made their home in Pleasant Grove where they raised their three children.

Mildred worked at Geneva Steel, at Smith Drug and at Bank of Pleasant Grove (later Deseret Bank) for many years. She was the first woman Head Cashier at the bank in 1978 and worked in that capacity until she retired in 1984. She was chosen Pleasant Grove Woman of the Year in 2000.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings during her life.

She was known as an accomplished historian and genealogist. Mildred chaired the Pleasant Grove Community Local Government (CLG) and the History Preservation Committee. Under her leadership, this group was instrumental in establishing a downtown historic district, which encouraged the preservation and restoration of many residences and commercial buildings. Under her direction, the Old Bell School was restored in 1997. Mildred devoted many years to writing the history of Pleasant Grove.

She is survived by her two children: Robert (Cindy) Sutch, Pleasant Grove and Susan (Jack) Crannell, Pleasant Grove; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Additional survivors include siblings: Richard (Lorna) Bezzant, Reed (Bonnie) Bezzant, Brian Bezzant, and Lois (Reed) Sunderland, sister-in-law, Mae Bezzant. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Roy Sutch and brother Keith Bezzant.
