Dan Porter - 4/10/2011

Class of 1964

St. George, Utah-Dan Clark Porter, 64, passed away Sunday April 10, 2011 in his home surrounded by his family, after a long struggle with several health complications. Dan was born on June 22, 1946 in Nampa, Idaho to Omni Morley and Hattie Roberts Porter.

Dan was raised in St. George where he attended Dixie High School. He married his highschool sweetheart, LaVeryl Hafen, on February 15, 1964, and she remained the love of his life from that time on. She cared for him and was a great support through his illness. Shortly after, Dan joined the United States Air Force, where he served our country as a baker during the Vietnam War. A few years after he was discharged from the Air Force, he continued work as a baker for Albertsons. Dan worked for Albertsons for 21 years until he had to retire due to health problems.

Dan loved to do anything outdoors. Some of his hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, sports and family gatherings. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his family, especially while outdoors. Dan was an involved member of his church and community and was well known for his acts of service and especially his dutchoven cooking. Dan was an outstanding individual with many great qualities. He will be truly missed by all those who knew him.

Dan is survived by his children: Stacey Porter (Liz) Ivins, UT; Tiffany Porter Santa Clara, UT; Justin Porter (Leanna) Minot, ND; Clay Porter (Kaelyn) Idaho Falls, ID; Randi Strehlau (Damon) St. George, UT; Kari Fuller (Ivor) Santa Clara, UT; and Dana Bradshaw (Curtis) Santa Clara, UT. Sisters: Luana Bunnell Provo, UT and LaDawn Gubler (DeLoy) Ivins, UT. Dan also leaves behind 23 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Fontella Nuttall.

Our family would like to extend a special thanks to the managers and staff of Beehive Homes. Dan was a resident there for the last three years and thought of it as nothing less than his home. They cared for him in so many ways and we will be forever grateful for their dedicated service. Also a special thanks to Applegate Home Care and Hospice for their care and service of our father for the past several years.
