Ellis DeLoy Larson - 11/12/2011

Class of 1954

Ellis DeLoy Larson, 75, of Pleasant Grove passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011 after a two year struggle with heart disease. DeLoy was born March 9, 1936 in Bloomington, Utah to Ellis and Ora Hall Larson. He married Raye Freelove on March 9, 1957 in St. George. Their marriage was solemnized a year later in the St. George Temple.

DeLoy grew up in St. George and worked on the family ranch herding sheep and cattle. He attended school in St. George and graduated from Dixie High School. He and Raye made their married home in Pleasant Grove where they raised their four children. DeLoy worked for PDM Steel for six years until a strike encouraged him to start his own business, Larson’s Ornamental Iron in Pleasant Grove. DeLoy’s artistic mind enabled him to create ornamental masterpieces throughout the state. DeLoy made much of his own machinery and tooling including his twisting machines.

DeLoy loved mountainman rendezvous and along with four other men, founded the Ft. Bridger Rendezvous which is still a huge event. In his early years, DeLoy played the drums in an orchestra and enjoyed drumming throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife Raye of Pleasant Grove; four children: Lorna (Tom) Duvall, Orem; Judy (Kimo) Durrant, San Diego; Jeff (Sydney) Larson, Orem and Doug (Debbie) Larson, Pleasant Grove; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; seven silbings: Dockie Eyre, Noreene Brooks, Dowel Larson, DeAnna Goddard, Kelly Larson, Kerry Larson and Eva Larson. He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Lora.
